Ready to put your observation skills to the test? As part of National Primary Science Week, we’re inviting you to look closer and take on our Magnification Challenge!

What is magnification? Magnification is the process of making something look bigger than it is. It enlarges the apparent size, not the physical size, of something and allows us to see objects in greater detail than is possible with the naked eye.

Can you identify the six mysterious, magnified objects below? All the images have been taken using digital microscopes that are included in several of our resource kits. But there is a twist – all the images, except the bonus image, have been taken of objects included in our kits. Have a go at matching each magnified object with the kit it belongs to. You can check out the list of our resource kits here: https://houseofscience.nz/science-kits/

This challenge is open to all! Classroom packs and individual prizes are up for grabs, so don’t miss out on the chance to get involved. There are extra prizes available for identifying the bonus image.

How to enter:

  1. Study the six magnified images closely.
  2. Guess what each object is and which House of Science kit it belongs to. The object may be found in more than one kit, but you only need to list one in your entry.
  3. Submit your answers in the entry form below.
  4. Only one entry per email please.
