About us:

The House of Science is a charitable trust with a vision of raising scientific literacy. We develop and assembles science resource kits for primary schools. Our kits are used in over 200 schools. This role is based at our national head office which is MS 365 based, so proficiency with Outlook, Word, Excel and SharePoint would be desirable. Our organisation uses ‘Xero’ and ‘Tidy Enterprise’ software.

About you:

To thrive in this role, you will have a positive outlook, be a team player and a fast learner. Relevant qualifications are desirable but not essential, but experience in a similar role is expected. You will be very confident with Xero or similar financial software, and a good communicator. Experience in or an understanding of the not-for-profit sector would be helpful.

Tasks:

  • Administer financial-related tasks for the organisation
    • Perform budget and payroll transactions
    • Maintain accurate financial records for tax-related purposes
    • Monitor and action all grant financial accountability reports
  • Oversee project workflow
    • Administer projects and orders with the help of our online management system
  • Administer suppliers and stock:
    • Procure, negotiate, and contract for necessary supplies, goods and materials
    • Request quotes and evaluate results to select appropriate suppliers
    • Track inventory and purchases with the help of our online management system
    • collaborate with and support other staff as needed

Skills:

Be proficient in the above tasks while providing excellent customer service and act professionally while interacting with suppliers, staff and volunteers. Plus:

  • work well independently
  • computer literate
  • have excellent problem-solving skills
  • have an excellent eye for detail
  • have advanced bookkeeping knowledge, reconcile accounting records, and correct discrepancies
  • work well under pressure and to shifting financial circumstances
  • use the organisation’s resources efficiently
