Science Teacher Leadership Programme (STLP)

For teachers in yr 1-10. The Science Teaching Leadership Programme supports the Government’s national strategic plan for science in society.  This programme focuses on developing science leaders.  It requires a formal commitment from the school or science department to make science learning and professional development a priority for 12 – 18 months following the participant teacher’s return to school. The New Zealand Association of Science Educators is an organisation representing the needs of science educators in New Zealand. They have regional branches and special interest groups for primary and secondary educators. More details


New Zealand Science Teacher (NZST)

Published on behalf of NZASE (see above) features a veritable cornucopia of information on everything you wanted to know about science and science education but never thought to ask. The website is updated weekly with the latest news, opinion, videos, and comprehensive articles (both academic and informative) relevant to science education in New Zealand. Annual print and digital (iPad and Android) editions of New Zealand Science Teacher are published as companions to this website. These editions are published in November each year. More details

Eureka Trust

The Eureka Trust’s key strategies are to run a national Eureka programme that will engage students from year four onwards in STEM communication, to run events and activities that showcase young people’s communication skills around STEM and its value to New Zealand and to develop continuing networks among participants from the Eureka programme. St Paul’s Collegiate School in conjunction with the Ministry of Education, NZQA and the primary industries have collaborated to design an agribusiness programme that will prepare the best and brightest students for careers in the primary sector. It is offered at NCEA Levels 2 and 3 and is designed for students who excel in science and commerce subjects. This academic course exposes students to the wide range of skills required and the opportunities available in the primary sector beyond the farm gate. More details
